The Northeast Tacoma Neighborhood is physically  separated from the rest of the city by the Port of Tacoma and Commencement Bay.  The neighborhood is surrounded by the unincorporated Pierce County communities of Browns Point and Dash Point to the west and north and to the NE the City of Federal Way in King County.  The NE Tacoma Neighborhood Council only represents neighborhoods within the city limits of Tacoma.
With most of its population and housing arriving since 1980, the area represents a community of new residential subdivisions. Homeownership, incomes and education levels are above City averages.

NE Tacoma is proud to support three superior elementary schools: Crescent Heights, NE Tacoma and Browns Point.  NE Tacoma also has a wonderful middle school: Meeker.

The neighborhood contains most community facilities and services, however the neighborhood lacks a senior center and a high school.

Remaining undeveloped land consists mainly of ravines and steep slopes, lying NE of SR 509 (Marine View Drive) and a few undeveloped parcels.

Since few major employers exist in or near Northeast Tacoma, the vast majority of residents commute through Federal Way to employment opportunities.

NE Tacoma has very limited retail and commercial prospects.  Federal Way provides most of these services.
A highly desirable residential community, NE Tacoma is made up of eight neightborhood districts:

Area 1: Northwood,
Area 2: Stonegate/Centennial,
Area 3: NE Tacoma,
Area 4: Crescent Heights,
Area 5: Northshore,
Area 6: Harbor Ridge,
Area 7: Upper Browns Point,
Area 8: Cedar Heights.

See the Neighborhood Area detail pages for more information about each neighborhood district.
